Presidents claim top seed in tourney with OT win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Washington and Jefferson pulled out a 2-1 overtime win over Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference men's soccer competition Saturday afternoon at College Field.

The victory gives Washington and Jefferson (10-7-1, 8-2 PAC) home field advantage throughout next week's PAC Championship Tournament. Grove City (10-7-3, 6-2-2 PAC) also receives a bye into the semifinals as the second seed.

President junior Andy Komar scored 3:45 into the first overtime off a direct kick to give Washington and Jefferson the win.

Grove City trailed 1-0 at halftime but tied the match in the 55th minute as senior Mike Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) headed in a corner kick from junior Peter Williams (Charlotte, N.C./First Assembly).

Grove City out-shot the Presidents 15-6 but fell to Washington and Jefferson for the second time this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) made one save for the Wolverines.

Koper and senior Dustin King (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta) were honored prior to the match as part of Senior Day festivities. Both are four-year letterwinners. Koper is a four-year starter while King is a three-year starter.
