Grove City slips past Shenandoah

BALTIMORE -- Sophomore Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored in the 77th minute and junior goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) stopped a penalty kick in the final moments as the Grove City College men's soccer team trimmed Shenandoah, 1-0, in the second day of action at the Johns Hopkins Classic.

Following a scoreless first half, McNees scored the game's lone goal after a feed from junior Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian). Late in the match, Gladfelter turned back a penalty kick to preserve the shutout and the eventual victory.

Gladfelter stopped four shots. Shenandoah out-shot the Wolverines 10-7. Grove City (2-1) has allowed just one goal so far this season. Gladfelter and junior Adam Ludwig (Farmington, N.M./Farmington) were named to the Classic's All-Tournament Team.

The Wolverines visit Waynesburg Wednesday in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
