Wolverines blank Lake Erie, 3-0

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Forwards Ben Hoffman (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) and Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) each tallied a goal and assist as the Grove City College men's soccer team rolled to a 3-0 victory over host Lake Erie Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

McNees' unassisted goal with 50 seconds left in the first half gave the Wolverines (3-2) a 1-0 lead at halftime. Grove City maintained its 1-0 lead until the 82nd minute when Hoffman scored off a McNees pass. The Wolverines then stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 84th minute as Hoffman assisted senior Peter Williams (Charlotte, N.C./First Assembly).

In goal, junior Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) earned the shutout victory by stopping three shots. Normally one of the Wolverines' starting forwards, Jones started in goal because junior goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) received a red card for an intentional handball outside of the box Sept. 11 against Pitt-Greensburg.

Hoffman replaced Jones in the starting lineup at forward. Grove City begins Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday at Bethany.
