Grove City wins conference opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored twice while junior forward Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) added a goal and an assist to help the Grove City College men's soccer team roll past Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Bethany, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at College Field in both teams' PAC opener.

McNees scored in the 43rd minute after a pass from Jones to give Grove City (4-2, 1-0 PAC) a 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, McNees scored in the 64th minute to double Grove City's lead. Senior forward Ben Hoffman (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) supplied the assist.

Sixteen minutes later, Jones capped the match's scoring following a pass from senior midfielder Peter Williams (Charlotte, N.C./First Assembly).

Junior goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) earned the shutout victory, stopping five shots. Grove City out-shot Bethany (4-3, 0-1 PAC) 15-10.

Saturday's match was originally scheduled to be played at Bethany but was switched due to flooding in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. The Wolverines will host Penn State Behrend Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
