Grove City earns overtime win

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 6-5 Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 overtime victory at Geneva in non-conference action.

Sophomore Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored 6:32 into the first overtime period to give the Wolverines their second consecutive victory. Senior Peter Williams (Charlotte, N.C./First Assembly) provided the game-winning assist.

McNees scored in the 19th minute to give Grove City a 1-0 lead. Senior Ben Hoffman (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) and junior Phil Bresson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth Christian) each assisted on the goal.

McNees now has 10 goals on the season while Williams has a team-high five assists. Hoffman picked up his fourth assist of 2004. Geneva out-shot the Wolverines, 21-7. Junior goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) stopped 10 shots for the Wolverines.

Grove City returns to action Tuesday afternoon against Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster at College Field. The match starts at 4 p.m.
