Five straight for Wolverines
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) and sophomore Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) each had a goal and an assist Monday afternoon as the Grove City College men's soccer team downed visiting La Roche, 2-0, at College Field in non-conference action.
It is Grove City's fifth straight victory and third straight shutout win.
Jones gave Grove City (9-5) the lead at the 7:32 mark with his fourth goal of the season. McNees supplied the assist.
Thirty-five minutes later, Jones returned the favor as his pass set up McNees' goal. McNees now has a team-high 14 goals this year. It is the highest single-season goal total for a Grove City player since Greg Kreutzberg's 25 in 1996.
In goal, junior Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) stopped five shots to earn the shutout victory. Gladfelter is now 8-5 this year.
Grove City returns to action Saturday at Washington and Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
