Tartans nip Grove City, 3-2
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Carnegie Mellon (7-1-3) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 victory over Grove City in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at College Field.
Carnegie Mellon took a 2-0 lead 13 minutes into the match on goals from Dan Mostalski and Sean Filipovitz. However, the Wolverines (9-6-1) slashed the lead in half at the 21:32 mark as junior Adam Ludwig (Farmington, N.M./Farmington) scored on a penalty kick. It is Ludwig's first goal of the season and the Wolverines' first penalty kick goal of the season.
Carnegie Mellon extended its lead to 3-1 in the second half as Jonathan Browne scored at 72:08. Nine minutes later, Grove City pulled to within 3-2 as sophomore Stuart McCommas (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) scored his second goal of the season. Sophomore Brendan McCommas (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), Stuart's twin brother, supplied the assist.
CMU outshot the Wolverines, 12-7. Grove City goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) stopped four shots for Grove City. The loss snaps Grove City's six-match unbeaten streak.
The Wolverines host Thiel in PAC action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
