Grove City downs Thiel, 2-0
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored a goal and assisted a first-half goal by junior forward Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) Saturday afternoon, helping the Grove City College men's soccer team earn a 2-0 win over visiting Thiel at College Field in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Jones gave Grove City (10-6-1, 5-2-1 PAC) a 1-0 lead in the first half with his fifth goal of the season. The Wolverines carried that 1-0 lead into the 89th minute when McNees tallied his team-best 15th goal of the season. The goal was unassisted.
Junior goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) earned the shutout, his eighth of the season. As a team, the Wolverines have nine shutouts this year and are 6-1-1 in their last eight matches.It is also the eighth time in 10 years that the Wolverines have posted 10 or more wins in a season.
Grove City hosts Waynesburg Wednesday at 3 p.m. in PAC action.
