Wolverines hold off Waynesburg, 3-2

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior midfielder Adam Ludwig (Farmington, N.M./Farmington) scored twice Wednesday afternoon, helping the Grove City College men's soccer team pull out a 3-2 victory over visiting Waynesburg in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at College Field.

Grove City (11-6-1, 6-2-1 PAC) took the lead for good midway through the first half as Ludwig scored on a penalty kick in the 18th minute, his third goal of the season and second goal via penalty kick.

Six minutes later, senior Dan Bryan (Westfield, N.Y./Westfield Academy) scored his first goal of the season after a cross from sophomore Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk). Waynesburg cut the lead in half at the 34:12 mark on a goal from Todd Schollaert.

Ludwig scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the second half, giving Grove City a 3-1 lead but Waynesburg countered quickly as David Peters scored at 55:27. However, the Wolverines were able to blank Waynesburg (4-13, 0-9 PAC) over the final 35 minutes.

In goal, junior Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) stopped three shots to earn the win. Grove City out-shot Waynesburg, 17-11.

The Wolverines close the regular season Saturday afternoon at home against Washington and Jefferson at 1 p.m. It is Senior Day for Bryan, Jake Burns (Mercer, Pa./Mercer), Ben Hoffman (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) and Peter Williams (Charlotte, N.C./First Assembly).
