Grove City rolls past Presidents, 4-0

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored twice and added an assist while senior forward Ben Hoffman (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) had a goal and an assist as the Grove City College men's soccer team closed the 2004 regular season with a 4-0 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington and Jefferson at College Field on Senior Day.

Hoffman put Grove City up 1-0 in the 21st minute with an unassisted goal, his fourth score of the year. Grove City (12-6-1, 7-2-1 PAC) then tacked on a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the first half. McNees scored after a feed from sophomore midfielder Jonathan Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) at 40:30.

In the final minute of the half, senior Peter Williams (Charlotte, N.C./First Assembly) pushed the lead to 3-0 after a pass from McNees. It is Williams' second goal of the season.

Grove City closed the scoring in the 55th minute as McNees scored on a header after a pass from Hoffman. McNees now has 17 goals on the season, tops in the PAC.

Junior goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) stopped five shots to earn the shutout. Grove City out-shot the Presidents (9-7-1, 6-3-1 PAC), 12-6.

Grove City will host a PAC Tournament semifinal Wednesday afternoon.
