Presidents top Grove City in conference semifinal
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Washington and Jefferson (11-7-1) scored a pair of second-half goals to slip past Grove City, 2-1, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament semifinal match at College Field.
The second-seeded Wolverines (12-7-1) took a 1-0 lead at the 51:40 mark as sophomore forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored off a feed from senior Ben Hoffman (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut). It is McNees' team-leading 18th goal of the season.
However, the third-seeded Presidents tied the match eight minutes later on a goal from Andy Komar. Washington and Jefferson then pulled ahead at 82:30 as Andrew Enrietti headed in the game-winner on a corner kick.
Washington and Jefferson out-shot the Wolverines, 18-11. In goal, junior goalkeeper Joel Gladfelter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) stopped nine shots for Grove City.
Washington and Jefferson, the defending PAC champion, will host fourth-seeded Bethany Saturday in the PAC title match. The fourth-seeded Bison upset No. 1 seed Westminster, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon.
