Grove City tops Thomas More

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Thomas More at College Field.

Senior midfielder Phil Bresson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth Christian) scored twice and added an assist to help spark the victory. Bresson gave Grove City a 1-0 lead just 4:27 into the match with his first goal of the season. Junior Jonathan Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) supplied the assist.

In the second half, Bresson doubled the Wolverines' lead with a goal at 51:30. Junior forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) provided the assist. Fifteen minutes later, McNees scored on a Bresson pass, sealing the victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped seven shots to earn the shutout win. It is Grove City's second straight shutout. The Wolverines have not allowed a goal in 264 minutes.

Thomas More fell to 0-2-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the PAC.

Saturday's match was the 500th as head coach for Grove City head coach Dr. Don Lyle (266-201-33). The Wolverines will visit Pitt-Bradford Tuesday afternoon.
