Grove City tops Waynesburg

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over visiting Waynesburg at College Field.

Junior forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored a pair of goals and assisted on a third goal to help Grove City earn its third straight victory. McNees broke a scoreless tie at the 37:53 mark with his third goal of the season. Sophomore Barry Snyder (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) supplied the assist.

Snyder doubled the Wolverines' lead five minutes later with his first goal of the season after a McNees assist. Waynesburg cut the Grove City lead to 2-1 at 76:52 on Todd Schollaert's unassisted goal but Grove City sealed the victory 23 seconds later on McNees' second goal of the match. Senior Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) provided the assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) earned his fourth collegiate victory by stopping seven shots. Grove City owned a 32-8 edge in shots.

The Wolverines will visit Penn State Behrend Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
