Wolverines blank Presidents, 2-0

GROVE CITY -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 8-3-3 overall and 6-1-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 2-0 victory over visiting Washington and Jefferson (11-4, 7-1 PAC) Saturday afternoon at College Field on Senior Day.

Senior Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) helped lead the Wolverines by scoring Grove City's first goal and assisting on the second score. Jones put Grove City ahead at the 50:24 mark with his fourth goal of the season. Freshman Matt Sol (Crofton, Md./South River) provided the assist.

The Wolverines sealed the win at 68:40 as junior Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored his 14th goal of the season, following a pass from Jones. It is Jones' team-leading sixth assist of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped five shots to preserve the shutout. It is Grove City's fourth straight shutout and seventh shutout of the season. The Wolverines have not allowed a goal in 401 minutes.

Grove City owned a 14-13 edge in shots.

Prior to the match, seniors Phil Bresson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth Christian), Jones, Adam Ludwig (Farmington, N.M./Farmington), Joe O'Donnell (Brackenridge, Pa./St. Joseph) and Addison Smith (Lewis Center, Ohio/Big Walnut) were honored for their four years of service.

The Wolverines will visit Carnegie Mellon Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
