Hopkins tops Grove City in ECAC finals
BALTIMORE -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned runner-up honors in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament Sunday afternoon as second-seeded Johns Hopkins earned a 3-0 home win over No. 4 seed Grove City at Homewood Field.
Grove City, champions of the Presidents' Athletic Conference, finishes the season 13-6-5.
Johns Hopkins (14-2-5) took a 1-0 lead at 7:50 as Manbaj Gill scored off a corner kick. The lead grew to 2-0 at 28:46 as Matthew Carlson scored on a corner kick.
Hopkins then closed the match's scoring at 75:35 as Adam Simon scored an insurance goal. Johns Hopkins out-shot Grove City, 30-6. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped 13 shots for Grove City.
The Wolverines will graduate five seniors from this year's team: midfielders Phil Bresson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth Christian), Joe O'Donnell (Brackenridge, Pa./St. Joseph), Addison Smith (Lewis Center, Ohio/Big Walnut), forward Nate Jones (Haymarket, Va./Emmanuel Christian) and stopper Adam Ludwig (Farmington, N.M./Farmington).
Bresson started all 86 matches of his career, setting a new Grove City record. The Wolverines' 24 matches this season are the most in program history.
