Grove City slips past La Roche in overtime, 1-0
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 2-1 in 2006 with a 1-0 overtime victory over visiting La Roche Wednesday afternoon at College Field. It is Grove City's second straight shutout victory.
Senior forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored the game-winner at 97:42 after an assist from senior Ian Lamborn (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg). Lamborn obtained possession near midfield, dribbled towards the left side of the box and crossed the ball to McNees. It is Lamborn's first career assist.
McNees' goal is the 50th of his career and his second game-winning goal this year.
Junior goalkeeper Michael Manahan stopped 10 shots to preserve the shutout. Grove City out-shot the Redhawks (1-1), 20-17. Each team had eight corner kicks.
Grove City is now 4-0-6 in its last 10 overtime matches dating back to 2003. The shutout is Grove City's 51st this decade.
The Wolverines will host Waynesburg Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
