Wolverines earn 3rd straight shutout win
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team posted its third consecutive shutout Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines earned a 2-0 victory over visiting Waynesburg at College Field.
Following a scoreless first half, Grove City (3-1) broke through with a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes. Senior forward Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) broke the 0-0 tie with an unassisted goal at 76:33. McNees then sealed the win at 86:03 with his second unassisted goal of the match. It is his sixth goal this year and 52nd of his career.
In goal, junior goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped nine shots to earn the shutout win. Manahan stopped seven shots in the first half. Grove City out-shot the Yellow Jackets, 19-8, and had 12 corner kicks. Waynesburg did not have a corner kick in the match.
Grove City hosts Carnegie Mellon Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field. It is the fourth of seven straight home matches for the Wolverines.
