Wolverines trim Thomas More, 2-1

CINCINNATI -- The Grove City College men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Thomas More Saturday at Xavier University. The match is considered a non-conference match as the PAC has adopted a single round-robin schedule format for soccer. The Grove City-Thomas More match Oct. 28 in Grove City will count as the conference match.

Grove City (5-3 overall) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute as senior defender Brendan McCommas (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) scored off a corner kick. Junior Chad Ashby (High Point, N.C./Wesleyan Academy) supplied the assist.

The Wolverines extended the lead to 2-0 in the second half as senior Ian Lamborn (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scored an unassisted goal. It is Lamborn's first career goal.

Thomas More (1-5-1) cut the lead to 2-1 at 71:18 as Alex Weidner scored for the Saints.

Grove City owned a 16-11 edge in shots. Goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped five shots for the Wolverines. It was Grove City's first match in 10 days.

The Wolverines will visit Washington & Jefferson Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
