Grove City rolls past Saint Vincent, 4-1

LATROBE, Pa. -- Three second-half goals helped lift the Grove City College men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory at Saint Vincent Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match. Grove City is now 7-5-1 overall.

Junior Chad Ashby (High Point, N.C./Wesleyan Academy) and senior Bob McNees (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) each posted a goal and an assist during the second-half flurry. McNees' second goal of the afternoon gave Grove City a 2-1 lead at 67:58. Ashby provided the assist.

Grove City extended its lead to 3-1 at 72:42 as sophomore Tyler Ferrier (Newtown Square, Pa./Delaware County Christian) scored his first collegiate goal. Junior Barry Snyder (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) assisted Ferrier.

The Wolverines then closed the scoring at 85:07 as Ashby scored his first goal of 2006. McNees assisted on the score. It is McNees' first assist this year.

Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead at 16:08 as McNees scored on a free kick. Saint Vincent (7-8-1) tied the match at 33:07 on Jason Zielinski's penalty kick goal.

Junior goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped six shots for the Wolverines. Saint Vincent owned a 20-18 edge in shots.

Grove City will host Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The teams played to a 0-0, double-overtime draw in Washington, Pa. Oct. 3
