Wolverines earn 5-1 victory on road

BRADFORD, Pa. -- Five different Grove City College players scored their first collegiate goal Wednesday afternoon, vaulting the Wolverines to a 5-1 victory over host Pitt-Bradford in non-conference soccer action. Grove City is now 2-2-1 overall.

Freshman Ross Howat (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) broke a scoreless tie at 36:26 with his first collegiate goal. Senior Eli Lamborn (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) assisted Howat's score.

Pitt-Bradford forged a 1-1 tie at 62:13 on a goal by Peter Fay but the Wolverines answered with four goals in an 11-minute span. Sophomore Sean Osborne (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) put Grove City ahead to stay at the 74:18 mark with his first goal. Freshman Evan Moore (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) assisted Osborne's goal.

Three minutes later, Howat assisted on a goal by junior Bob Terhune (East Stroudsburg, Pa./North Warren, N.J.) as Grove City doubled its lead to 3-1.

Sophomore Mike Soriano (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) gave Grove City a 4-1 lead at 84:00 after Lamborn dished out his second assist of the match. Grove City wrapped up the scoring at 85:12 as freshman Erich Beyer (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) scored his initial college goal. Moore assisted Beyer's goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Lansing (Albany, N.Y./Loudonville Christian) stopped four shots to earn the win. It is Lansing's first collegiate win. Grove City outshot Pitt-Bradford, 21-6. The Wolverines also had six corner kicks.

Grove City will host Lake Erie Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
