Lake Erie upends Grove City in OT, 3-2

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Justin Rraya scored an unassisted goal 7:33 into overtime Saturday afternoon, lifting Lake Erie to a 3-2 victory over host Grove City in non-conference men's soccer action at College Field. Grove City is now 2-3-1 overall this season.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the first half as senior Tommy Bresson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth Christian) scored his first collegiate goal. The Wolverines carried that 1-0 lead into the second half but Lake Erie forged a 1-1 tie at 52:49 on Joe Starvaggi's unassisted goal.

Grove City reclaimed the lead less than four minutes later on an "own goal" at 56:10. Lake Erie again tied the match, this time on a goal from Phil Fisher at 75:12. Rraya then broke the tie in overtime.

Grove City owned a 20-15 edge in shots and an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped eight shots for Grove City, which had won each of the previous 10 meetings with Lake Erie.

Prior to Saturday, Grove City had not lost an overtime match since Nov. 6, 2003, a span of 14 matches (5-0-9).

The Wolverines return to action Wednesday afternoon at Penn State Behrend.
