Wolverines earn draw on road

ERIE, Pa. -- Freshman Jake Kern (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) scored his first collegiate goal at the 84:10 mark, helping the Grove City College men's soccer team earn a 1-1, double-overtime draw at Penn State Behrend Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Grove City (2-3-2) trailed for over 80 minutes as Behrend (3-2-2) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Jerry Tortella at 2:59. However, Grove City sent the match to overtime on Kern's unassisted score. In overtime, senior goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped three shots to preserve the tie.

Manahan finished the match with nine total saves. Penn State Behrend owned a 23-16 shot edge, including an 8-2 advantage in overtime. Penn State Behrend also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Grove City is now 6-1-12 in its last 19 overtime matches, dating back to 2003. The Wolverines will host Baldwin-Wallace Friday at 4:30 p.m. in non-conference action. It will be the first meeting between the teams since 1991.
