Carnegie Mellon edges Grove City

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's soccer team is 2-5-2 overall after dropping a hard-fought 2-1 decision to host Carnegie Mellon (6-0) Tuesday night in non-conference action at Gesling Stadium.

Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the closing moments of the first half as senior Paul Cardinal (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Bible Baptist) scored his first collegiate goal at the 44:54 mark. Senior Eli Lamborn (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) assisted Cardinal's goal.

Carnegie Mellon tied the match at 52:40 as Ricky Griffith scored his sixth goal of the season. Griffith then scored the eventual game-winner at 76:36.

Carnegie Mellon owned a 14-2 edge in shots. For Grove City, senior goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped four shots. CMU also owned a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Grove City will host Franciscan University Thursday afternoon in non-conference play.
