Wolverines open conference play with draw

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon by earning a 1-1 tie with host Bethany at Hoag Field. Grove City is now 3-5-3 overall and 0-0-1 in the PAC.

Grove City forged a 1-1 tie at 63:17 as senior midfielder Tommy Bresson (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth Christian) scored his second goal of 2007. Bethany jumped to a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the match as Andrew McPherson scored at 3:56. However, Grove City goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) blanked Bethany (3-4-2, 0-0-1) over the final 106 minutes. Manahan stopped four shots.

Each team had 13 shots in the match. Grove City held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. The Wolverines had two corners in the second overtime but could not convert either into the game-winning goal.

Four of Grove City's last six matches have gone to overtime. The Wolverines are 1-1-2 in those four matches.

Grove City will host Waynesburg Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in PAC action.
