Big second half propels Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior forward Tyler Ferrier (Newtown Square, Pa./Delaware County Christian) broke a scoreless tie with his first goal of 2007 at the 50:44 mark while sophomore Mike Soriano (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) scored a pair of insurance goals later in the half in lifting the Grove City College men's soccer team to a 3-0 home victory over Waynesburg in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at College Field.

Ferrier, playing in just his second match of the season, scored the eventual game-winner from the top of the box. Sophomore Sean Osborne (Manassas, Va./Osbourne) assisted Ferrier's goal.

Soriano doubled Grove City's lead at 66:12 as he headed in a pass from senior defender Barry Snyder (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg). Soriano, who leads the team with three goals this season, closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 70:30.

Grove City (4-5-3, 1-0-1 PAC) owned a 25-9 edge in total shots. The Wolverines also had an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Michael Manahan (State College, Pa./State College) stopped two shots in earning his second shutout of the season. The Wolverines now have 60 shutouts since the start of the 2000 season.

Grove City will host Saint Vincent Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
