Wolverines drop opener to Point Park
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened the 2008 season Friday afternoon with a 1-0 setback against visiting Point Park at College Field.
Point Park freshman Sean Welton broke a scoreless tie at 21:02 with his first collegiate goal. Welton retrieved a loose ball in front of the net before scoring the lone goal of the match.
Grove City (0-1) out-shot Point Park 16-6 and also owned an 11-4 edge in corner kicks. Point Park goalkeeper Steve Fabian stopped four shots to earn the shutout. For Grove City, junior goalkeeper Tim Lansing (Albany, N.Y./Loudonville Christian) recorded two saves.
Grove City will host Mount St. Joseph Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
