Wolverines fall to Capital

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's soccer team fell to 0-2-1 overall Friday evening with a 6-2 setback against Capital at Ohio Wesleyan University in the first day of the adidas Classic.

Grove City fell behind 2-0 in the first eight minutes but scored twice in an eight-minute span to tie the match. Sophomore Chuck Witt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) cut the lead in half at 12:13 with his first goal of the season, an unassisted score. Then, at 16:03, sophomore defender Zach Barzanty (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) scored his first collegiate goal after an assist from classmate Evan Moore (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville).

However, Capital's Joey Snyder scored twice before halftime to give the Crusaders a 4-2 lead. Capital then added a pair of insurance goals in the second half.

Capital out-shot Grove City, 28-10, and also owned a 9-8 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Tim Lansing (Albany, N.Y./Loudonville Christian) stopped 12 shots for the Wolverines.

Grove City will face host Ohio Wesleyan Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
