Barons nip Wolverines in OT

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 double-overtime decision to host Franciscan University of Steubenville Wednesday night in non-conference action.

After a scoreless first half, Grove City took a 1-0 lead at 55:08 as sophomore Chuck Witt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) headed in his first goal of 2008. Sophomore Jake Kern (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) provided the assist.

Grove City held its 1-0 lead until the 88:18 mark when Franciscan's Zepherin Swope scored the equalizer. In the second overtime period, Swope headed in the game-winner. Swope's game-winning goal came at 103:11.

Franciscan owned a 16-12 edge in shots. The Barons also had an 11-4 edge in corner kicks. For Grove City, junior goalkeeper Tim Lansing (Albany, N.Y./Loudonville Christian) stopped 10 shots.

Grove City (0-4-1) will visit Baldwin-Wallace Saturday night at 7 p.m.
