Wolverines work OT for first win
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Freshman Zach Lewallen (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) scored his first collegiate goal with just 13 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to give the Grove City College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over visiting Penn State Behrend at College Field Wednesday afternoon.
Lewallen scored the game-winner after retrieving a loose ball to the right of the goal box.
Grove City (1-5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the closing moments of the first half as sophomore Zach Barzanty (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) scored his second goal of the season at 44:56. The Wolverines appeared to be on their way to a 1-0 win but Behrend (3-4) tied the match at 86:38 as a shot from Josh Teti deflected off a Grove City defender and slipped past junior goalkeeper Sean Osborne (Manassas, Va./Osbourn).
Osbourn earned his first collegiate win in goal after making seven saves. Penn State Behrend out-shot Grove City, 19-16. Behrend also had an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
Grove City is now 8-2-14 in its last two dozen overtime matches, dating back to the 2003 season. The Wolverines will visit Penn State Altoona Saturday night for a non-conference match at 6 p.m.
