Grove City wins 4th straight

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned its fourth straight victory Tuesday afternoon as the Wolverines pulled out a 3-2 win over host Saint Vincent in a clash of Presidents' Athletic Conference members at Chuck Noll Field.

Grove City grabbed 1-0 lead at 11:37 as sophomore Evan Moore (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) scored his second goal of the 2008 season. Sophomore Jake Kern (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) assisted the goal.

Saint Vincent tied the match at 29:44 on a goal from Ben Fecik. However, Grove City (5-7-2) broke the match open in the second half with a pair of quick goals. Kern put Grove City ahead 2-1 at 69:51 with his third goal of the season. Sophomore Alex Ford (Bridgeville, Pa./Kiski Prep) assisted Kern's goal.

Forty-six seconds later, Ford scored his first collegiate goal after receiving an assist from senior Paul Cardinal (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Bible Baptist). Saint Vincent (5-10) cut the lead to 3-2 at 80:56 on a goal by Rick Fec but drew no closer.

Grove City out-shot Saint Vincent, 17-13, including an 11-8 edge in the second half. Saint Vincent held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Sean Osborne (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) stopped six shots to earn his fourth straight win for the Wolverines. Prior to Tuesday's match, Grove City had not surrendered a goal in 290 minutes of game action.

Tuesday's match does not count in the PAC standings due to Saint Vincent's provisional NCAA Division III status. Grove City (3-0 PAC) will host Thomas More Friday at 3 p.m. in PAC play. The match is part of Homecoming Weekend at Grove City.
