CMU tops Grove City
PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to host Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Gesling Stadium.
CMU, ranked 12th in the nation, took a 1-0 lead at the 35:11 mark on a goal from Ricky Griffin. The Tartans then broke the match open with four goals in the second half.
Pat Lutz scored at 48:22 while Jon Hall added a goal at 55:45. Griffin scored again at 58:50 while Ryan Heuler closed the scoring at 65:13. The Tartans outshot Grove City 23-2. Carnegie Mellon had eight corner kicks while the Wolverines (2-5-1) had one.
Senior goalkeeper Sean Osborne (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) stopped nine shots in 60 minutes of play. Freshman Nick Bell (Westerville, Ohio/Tree of Life) had one save in 30 minutes.
Grove City will visit Juniata Tuesday in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
