Late goal lifts Grove City to win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team pulled out a 2-1 victory over visiting Fredonia State Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field.

Freshman Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored his fifth goal of 2009 with 20 seconds left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie. Quinn scored the game-winner after receiving a free kick from sophomore Adam Brewer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver). It is Brewer's second assist of the season.

Grove City (8-8-1) took a 1-0 lead at 34:01 as junior Chuck Witt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) scored off an assist from classmate Alex Ford (Bridgeville, Pa./Kiski Prep). Witt now has three goals this year while Ford tallied his first assist.

Fredonia State (7-8-3) forged a 1-1 tie at 77:10 on Jack Flechaus' unassisted goal.

Grove City owned a 12-9 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. In goal, senior Sean Osborne (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) stopped two shots for the Wolverines.

Quinn has scored all five of his goals in Grove City's last five matches. He leads the team with four game-winning goals this year. It is Grove City's first-ever win over Fredonia State. The teams had not played since 1983. Fredonia State leads the all-time series 4-1.

Grove City is 4-4 in matches decided by one goal. Overall, the Wolverines have won four of their last five matches. The Wolverines are 6-3 since September 29.

Grove City will conclude the regular season Saturday afternoon at Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster at 3 p.m.
