Grove City rolls past Hilbert
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 2-1-1 overall Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over visiting Hilbert in non-conference action at College Field.
Senior midfielder Chuck Witt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) recorded his first collegiate hat trick to help vault Grove City to the victory. Witt broke a scoreless tie at the 13:51 mark by scoring off a corner kick. He then extended the lead to 2-0 at the 23:48 mark by scoring an unassisted goal.
Grove City pushed its lead to 3-0 at the 38:35 mark as freshman midfielder Richie Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) recorded his first collegiate goal.
Witt completed his hat trick 4:51 into the second half by scoring on a penalty kick. Sophomore forward Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) then closed the scoring at 76:22 with his first goal of 2010.
Grove City owned a 29-2 advantage in shots and a 13-0 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) made one save while posting his second shutout of the season.
Grove City will host Penn State Behrend Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
