Wolverines battle to 1-1 draw with Behrend

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team moved to 2-1-2 overall Wednesday afternoon after rallying for a 1-1, double-overtime draw with visiting Penn State Behrend (3-0-3) in non-conference action at College Field.

Grove City trailed 1-0 in the first half but forged a 1-1 tie at the 29:46 mark when sophomore forward Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) headed in his second goal of 2010.

Behrend had taken the early lead at 7:21 on a goal by Jake Gamble. Brian Bodnar assisted.

Grove City out-shot the Lions 17-13, including a 6-1 edge in the two overtime periods. Grove City also had a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. In goal, freshman Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) posted nine saves for the Wolverines. Behrend goalkeeper Chris Bolea made eight saves.

The series between the teams is 1-1-2 over the past four seasons. The teams also tied 1-1 in 2007. Grove City pulled out a 2-1 win over Behrend in 2008. The Lions won last year's meeting 1-0.

Grove City will visit Baldwin-Wallace Saturday night at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
