No. 3 CMU nips Grove City, 2-1

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to visiting Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field. Grove City is now 4-2-2 overall while Carnegie Mellon, ranked No. 3 in the nation, improved to 8-0 overall.

CMU broke a 1-1 tie with 57 seconds left in regulation on an unassisted goal by Alex Abedian.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead at 30:30 in the first half when senior Chuck Witt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Carnegie Mellon tied the match 1-1 in the closing moments of the first half as Chris Wysocki scored the equalizer. Brent Roller assisted the goal.

Carnegie Mellon owned a 15-3 edge in shots and a 9-3 margin in corner kicks. For Grove City, freshman goalkeeper Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) recorded seven saves, all in the first half.

The Wolverines had been undefeated in their last four matches (3-0-1) prior to Saturday's setback. Grove City returns to action Tuesday against visiting Juniata at 4 p.m. in non-conference action.
