Grove City blanks Juniata

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 5-2-2 overall Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over visiting Juniata (7-3) in non-conference action at College Field. Grove City is 4-1-1 in its last six matches.

Sophomore forward Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored twice in the first half for the Wolverines and freshman Andrew Wiley (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) added an insurance goal in the second half.

Quinn broke a scoreless tie at the 6:40 mark by retrieving a loose ball around the goal and directing it into the net. The game-winner is the first of the season for Quinn.

Grove City pushed the lead to 2-0 at 11:28 when Quinn scored his fourth goal of 2010 after receiving a feed from senior Jake Kern (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield).

Wiley recorded his first collegiate goal at 73:42 to seal the victory. He became the eighth Wolverine player to score a goal this season.

In goal, freshman Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped two shots to earn his third shutout of the season. The Wolverine defense limited Juniata to just three total shots. Grove City owned a 14-3 shot edge and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Grove City will visit Penn State-New Kensington Thursday in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
