Wolverines hand Geneva 1-0 loss

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 8-3-2 overall Friday afternoon by earning a 1-0 victory over rival Geneva (10-2-1) at College Field.

Grove City broke a scoreless tie with just six seconds left in the first half when freshman Kyle Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) scored his first collegiate goal. The unassisted goal came after a Geneva foul in the closing moments of the half.

Freshman goalkeeper Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) recorded four saves to preserve the shutout for Grove City. The Wolverines now have four shutouts in 2010.

Grove City owned an 11-7 edge in shots. Geneva had five corner kicks while Grove City had three corners.

Grove City is 7-2-1 in its last 10 matches and owns a 4-2-1 home record.

The Wolverines will host Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel Tuesday at 3 p.m.
