Wolverines post 5th straight shutout

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned its fifth consecutive shutout Friday afternoon as the Wolverines pulled out a 1-0 win over host Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. The five straight shutouts are a new program record.

Grove City (12-3-2, 5-1 PAC) grabbed its 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when senior forward Jake Kern (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) scored his fifth goal of the season. Senior Evan Moore (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) assisted Kern's goal. It is Moore's fourth assist this year.

The Wolverines owned a 24-7 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) made one save to seal the shutout. Grove City now has eight shutouts this year and owns a six-match win streak overall.

Saint Vincent dropped to 3-13-2 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Grove City has not allowed a goal in 490 minutes of action. The last goal allowed came October 5 in a 4-1 win over Westminster when the Titans scored on a penalty kick. The 12-3-2 record is the program's best since the 1996 squad won 15 of its first 17 matches. Grove City is 6-1-1 away from home this year.

Grove City will visit Fredonia State Tuesday at 3 p.m. in non-conference action.
