Win streak snapped

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team had its six-match win streak come to an end Wednesday afternoon as host Fredonia State handed the Wolverines (12-4-2) a 3-0 setback in non-conference play.

Fredonia State (10-8) scored three first-half goals to take control of the match. Peter Dagel broke the scoreless tie at 23:13. Brian Courtney scored off a rebound at 40:43 and Cory Paine added an insurance goal at 43:14 to close the scoring.

Freshman goalkeeper Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) stopped 11 shots for Grove City. Eight of the saves came in the first half.

Fredonia State owned a 25-12 edge in shots, along with a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Grove City had blanked each of its previous five opponents. The Wolverines will close the regular season Saturday at noon against Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Thomas More. It will be Senior Day for Grove City at College Field.
