Kern earns PAC, ECAC weekly honors
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College freshman men's soccer player Jake Kern (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield) earned two Player of the Week awards for his performance last week in victories at Geneva and Thiel. Kern is this week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Offensive Player of the Week.
Kern recorded his first career hat trick last Saturday, October 27, in the Wolverines' 4-2 victory at Thiel. He also assisted on the Wolverines' fourth goal against Thiel. Kern scored twice in the first 20 minutes and also assisted a goal by senior teammate Chad Ashby (High Point, N.C./Wesleyan Academy), helping Grove City grab a 3-0 lead. Kern then completed his hat trick in the 49th minute.
Kern also scored Grove City's first goal in a 2-0 victory at Geneva October 23.
He led Grove City with six goals and 14 total points this year. Kern played in 17 matches this season, including 10 starts at forward. The six goals are the most by a Grove City freshman since Bob McNees scored nine in 2003.
Grove City concluded the season with a 6-8-4 overall record, including a 2-3-1 mark in PAC play.
