Adrian edges Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened the 2011 season Friday afternoon with a 2-1 setback against visiting Adrian (1-0) in non-conference action at College Field.
Grove City took a 1-0 lead at the 17:07 mark when senior midfielder Adam Brewer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) blasted in an unassisted goal from 15 yards out.
Adrian countered with a pair of goals late in the first half. Ryan McCarthy scored the tying goal at 42:21 while Nick Minshall scored the go-ahead goal at 44:44 on a breakaway. Minshall also assisted McCarthy's score.
Grove City owned a 15-7 edge in shots and a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. In goal, sophomore Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) stopped three shots. James Ruby had eight saves for Adrian. The teams had not met prior to Friday's match.
Grove City will host Muskingum Saturday at 1 p.m.
