Grove City rallies past Behrend in OT

ERIE, Pa. -- Sophomore midfielder Richie Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) assisted on the game-tying goal late in regulation, then scored the game-winner in overtime to help lift the Grove City College men's soccer team to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over host Penn State Behrend Wednesday afternoon at the Family First complex.

Grove City (3-2) trailed 2-1 but senior Adam Brewer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) headed in the tying goal at 84:19 after receiving a cross from Kocur.

In overtime, Kocur scored at 93:39 to give the Wolverines the win. Kocur's shot deflected off the head of a Behrend defender and into the net. It is Kocur's first collegiate game-winning goal.

Behrend led 1-0 at halftime but the Wolverines tied the match at 61:42 on an unassisted goal by junior Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus). Ten minutes later, Behrend's Jimmy Belack put the Lions (1-3-1) back ahead with a goal at 71:53.

In goal, junior Caleb Koch (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) stopped four shots to earn the win. The Wolverines also recorded two team saves in the match.

Penn State Behrend owned a 13-10 edge in shots. Grove City had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. All five corner kicks came in the second half.

Grove City now leads the all-time series 21-13-3. The win marks Grove City's first overtime victory since a 2-1 double-overtime triumph over Franciscan September 27, 2007. The Wolverines had been 0-2-8 in the 10 overtime matches since then.

The Wolverines host Baldwin-Wallace Saturday at 1 p.m.
