Wolverines blank Mount Union

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 4-3 overall Tuesday afternoon by pulling out a 1-0 victory over visiting Mount Union (5-4) in non-conference action at College Field.

Freshman midfielder Mike Shupp (Ephrata, Pa./Lititz Christian) broke a scoreless tie 1 minute and 52 seconds into the second half with his first collegiate goal. Shupp, who made his first start of the season Tuesday, headed in a cross from sophomore Richie Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley).

Grove City owned a 13-7 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Caleb Koch (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) recorded his first shutout win by making one save. Overall, it is Grove City's second shutout of the season.

Grove City now leads the all-time series 10-5-1. The Wolverines won last year's meeting in Alliance, Ohio, 2-1. Grove City is also 5-1 in its last six matches against Ohio Athletic Conference foes.

Grove City will host Penn State-New Kensington Friday at 4 p.m. in non-conference action as part of Homecoming Weekend.
