Wolverines whip Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Senior Tim Boswell (Jonesborough, Tenn./Providence Academy) recorded his first career hat trick Friday night, helping vault the Grove City College men's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over host Waynesburg (6-5, 1-1 PAC) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at John F. Wiley Stadium.

Freshman Eric Fitchwell (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) added two goals and senior Adam Brewer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) also scored for the Wolverines (7-4, 2-1 PAC), who posted their largest margin of victory in a shutout since a 6-0 win over Thiel October 24, 2006.

Brewer gave Grove City a 1-0 lead at 11:29 when he headed in a cross from sophomore Daniel Adams (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands). Fitchwell pushed the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 37:06.

Grove City then broke open the match with four goals in a 15-minute span in the second half. Boswell scored his first goal at 48:57 after receiving an assist from junior Alex Ayer (Farmington, Conn./Farmington). Boswell scored Grove City's fourth goal of the night at 52:07 by booting a rebound into the net.

He then completed the hat trick with a goal at 58:30. Freshman George DeAugustino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) assisted Boswell's goal.

Fitchwell closed the scoring at 60:38 with his fifth goal of the season. Ayer assisted the goal.

Grove City owned a 20-10 edge in shots, along with a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Caleb Koch (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) and sophomore Chris Burgan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Trinity Christian) combined on the shutout for Grove City. Koch stopped three shots in 60 minutes, 38 seconds of action. Burgan made one save over the final 29:22.

Brewer and Fitchwell share the team lead with five goals each.

Grove City will visit Thiel Wednesday at 4 p.m. in conference action.
