Grove City tops Saint Vincent, extends streak to 6
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six matches Wednesday with a 2-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over visiting Saint Vincent at College Field. Grove City (11-4-1, 5-1-1 PAC) is 5-0-1 in its last six matches and 6-1-1 during October.
Grove City took a 1-0 lead at 35:55 when senior Tim Boswell (Jonesborough, Tenn./Providence Academy) scored his fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Richie Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) assisted the goal with a cross from the right wing.
The Wolverines doubled the lead at 68:21 when sophomore Zach Juergens (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) blasted a shot into the net from 20 yards out. Juergens now has two goals this season.
Saint Vincent (4-12-1, 3-5 PAC) cut the lead to 2-1 at 85:11 when Brody Ruffner headed in a free kick.
Junior goalkeeper Caleb Koch (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) stopped five shots for Grove City, earning his 10th win of 2011. Grove City owned a 17-10 edge in shots, along with a 9-1 corner kick advantage.
Grove City clinched a berth in next week's PAC Championship Tournament with Wednesday's win. The Wolverines will play a semifinal match next Tuesday. The Wolverines still have an outside shot at the top seed and can finish no lower than third in the regular-season standings.
Grove City concludes the regular season Saturday at Westminster. The PAC clash begins at 12 p.m.
