Medaille nips Wolverines

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team concluded the 2011 season Wednesday night with a 1-0 setback against Medaille in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southern Championship Tournament at All High Stadium. Grove City, the No. 7 seed in the eight-team draw, finishes the season 12-6-1 overall. Second-seeded Medaille (18-3-1) advances to Saturday's semifinals.

Medaille broke a 0-0 tie at 50:11 when George Tor scored his 15th goal of the season.

Medaille outshot Grove City 6-4. Grove City held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. For the Wolverines, junior goalkeeper Caleb Koch (Gaithersburg, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) stopped two shots.

Grove City's 27 wins over the last two seasons are the most in any two-year span in program history. The Wolverines advanced to the ECAC finals in 2010.

The Wolverines will graduate seniors Tim Boswell (Jonesborough, Tenn./Providence Academy), Adam Brewer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), Brian Eckenhoff (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape), Ben Kuniholm (Fairfax, Va./Trinity Christian) and Mark Leach (Fraser, Mich./Fraser).
