Grove City falls in double overtime

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened the 2012 season Friday night with a 2-1 double-overtime setback at Susquehanna University in non-conference action.

Susquehanna's Gannon Keller scored an unassisted goal 5:39 into the second overtime to give the Crusaders the win.

Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead at 28:33 when John Arnold scored the first goal of the match. The Wolverines forged a 1-1 tie with 11 seconds in the first half, however, when freshman Tim Shackleton (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) scored an unassisted goal.

Susquehanna out-shot Grove City (0-1) 30-6 and also held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. In goal, freshman Brendan Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) stopped 13 shots in his collegiate debut for the Wolverines.

Grove City will visit Lebanon Valley Saturday at 4 p.m. in non-conference action.
