Wolverines blank Bulldogs

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned its first shutout of 2012 Friday afternoon by pulling out a 1-0 victory over host Adrian in non-conference action at Performance Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half, Grove City (1-3) broke through at 53:19 when senior midfielder Alex Ayer (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) scored his first goal of the season. Senior forward Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) supplied the assist.

Grove City owned a 12-4 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in the second half. The Wolverines also held a 13-1 edge in corner kicks.

In goal, freshman Brenden Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) stopped two shots to record his first collegiate shutout.

Grove City will host Hilbert Saturday in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
