Grove City rolls past Hilbert

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned its second win in as many days Saturday afternoon by rolling to a 6-2 victory over visiting Hilbert in non-conference action at College Field.

Grove City (2-3) bolted to a 4-0 lead in the first 35 minutes of the match. Senior forward Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored twice in a 22-second span to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead. His penalty kick goal at 13:42 broke a scoreless tie. Quinn then added his second goal of the match at 14:04 after receiving an assist from junior defender Daniel Adams (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands).

Grove City pushed the lead to 3-0 at 29:37 when sophomore Jonathan Rothgeb (State College, Pa./Homeschooled) scored his first goal of the season. Adams also assisted that score.

Freshman Seth Loew (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) closed Grove City's first-half scoring by registering his first collegiate goal at 34:36. Rothgeb assisted the goal.

Hilbert trimmed the lead to 4-1 at 42:30 on Mario Williams' penalty kick goal. Grove City rebounded early in the second half, however, as freshman defender Justin Phillips (Simi Valley, Calif./Oaks Christian) scored his first collegiate goal. Rothgeb supplied the assist.

Hilbert's Jordan Lynch scored at 68:07 but Grove City sealed the win at 76:52 when sophomore Kyle Richert (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) scored the Wolverines' sixth goal of the afternoon. Senior forward Alex Ayer (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) assisted Richert's score.

Grove City owned a 17-8 edge in shots and a 14-2 corner kick advantage. Freshman goalkeeper Ben Weaver (York, Pa./Dallastown) earned his first win of the season by stopping seven shots.

Grove City earned a 1-0 win at Adrian Friday afternoon. The Wolverines will look for their third straight win overall Wednesday when Grove City hosts Penn State Behrend at 4 p.m.
