Heidelberg slips past Grove City
TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to host Heidelberg Wednesday night in non-conference action at Mayer Field.
Heidleberg (5-4) broke a 1-1 tie at 54:13 on an unassisted goal by Hamid Shariff. Grove City (3-6) pulled into that 1-1 tie late in the first half when freshman midfielder Seth Loew (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) blasted his second goal of the season into the net at the 43:11 mark. Junior defender Daniel Adams (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) assisted Loew's goal.
Heidelberg took a 1-0 lead on Cole Tonti's goal at 9:18.
Grove City owned a 15-12 edge in shots. The Wolverines also recorded 10 corner kicks while Heidelberg had three. In goal, freshman Brenden Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) stopped two shots.
Grove City will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against visiting Bethany at College Field.
